The official Mörk Borg action figure is a skeletal tribute to the Swedish doom-metal RPG.

Action figures and tabletop RPGs seem like an odd combination, but that hasn’t stopped the creators of artpunk sensation Mörk Borg from announcing an official action figure created in collaboration with Severed Toys. Currently funded on Kickstarter, the skeletal Dread Risen comes with a zine-style adventure.

The Dread Risen action figure is inspired by the nameless monster featured on the cover of the iconic Mörk Borg core rulebook and was sculpted by Argentinian artist Darío Maximiliano. The skeletal figure wearing the severed head of a demonic goat creature stands seven inches tall and contains 11 different points of articulation from its detachable head to its ankles.

The toy version of Dread Risen will come with a bunch of weapons that can be removed from the hilt: the standard rusty sword and shield are accompanied by a flail, and following expansion goals, a massive zweihänder, an unholy scroll, a seax, a pickaxe, a polearm, and some unfortunate person’s femur. Depending on the success of the campaign, Severed Toys said it will package all the accessories in a separate box.

That box will also contain a new magazine from Mörk Borg creators Johan Nohr and Pelle Nilsson called The Skeletal Creed, which was developed specifically for this toy. In it, players will summon their own custom Dread Risen minion and customize it across various random tables. Mörk Borg isn’t a tactical game, and in fact leans heavily toward OSR’s rules-light gameplay, but at least this way you can come up with a reason to slam the action figure down on the table.

The Dread Risen magazine covers and action figures will be available in four different versions: OG, Glow in the Dark, Blood Drenched, and Cursed. The magazine material will not change and is more a matter of aesthetic preference. Everything will be packaged in a clear plastic shell reminiscent of high-quality collectibles from comic shops, and the stand will allow for easy access to the magazine without having to deal with any other items.

The Kickstarter campaign for the Dread Risen action figure will run until June 11 and has already surpassed its initial funding goal. Severed Toys, a subsidiary of tabletop accessory maker Severed Books, expects the action figures to begin shipping to backers in October 2025.
