Fast food burgers aren't usually considered the healthiest food options in the world, but when it comes to your choices, some can set your diet back more than others.
A new study by telehealth platform Plushcare examined the health benefits of items like cheeseburgers and fries from some of the country’s most popular chains and ranked them based on how bad they are for you. The company compared calories, sugar, saturated fat, and sodium, and scored them according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ nutrient profiling methodology. This produced an overall “unhealthiness score” that shows how unhealthy some burgers are.
Five Guys tops the list of unhealthiest cheese burgers with a score of 50. Five Guys' fries, known for using fresh potatoes and frying them in peanut oil, are also among the unhealthiest fast food fries.
McDonald's and Burger King, the most common fast food chains in the country, performed better than most of their peers, comparatively speaking. The two establishments tied for 14 pointspearl A place with a total unhealthiness score of 18.
