As for his world PokemonLapras is one of the most beloved Water types in the entire franchise, so this new figurine is great news for fans. It's a common belief that every Pokémon has someone's favorite, and while Lapras can't compete with the likes of Lucario, Gengar, Charizard, and Mimikyu, the Gen 1 pocket monster is still loved by a decent fan base. Whether it's swimming across the ocean or just soaking up the sun, Lapras' design is one of the best early designs Pokemon games.
Fans of the plesiosaur-like creature can now pick it up at The Pokémon Center the new Lapras Pop! figure sporting a bright Pearlescent color scheme. Only available at the Pokémon Center, this Pop! is unique in that it gives off a subtle glow when exposed to the right lighting, causing the Lapras to sparkle as if it had emerged from a pool of water. While not overtly related to Lapras' Terrastalized form, the pearl effect evokes a shiny version of the Pokemon, albeit with less curved edges.
Why is Lapras so popular?
Great All-rounder
While Lapras may not be the strongest or rarest Pokemon, many players have developed a fondness for the Water-type due to its effectiveness in previous generations. In the original Red and Blueas well as remakes Fire Red and Leaf Green, Lapras is a fantastic all-rounder who comes along at just the right time in a game. Not only does he deal with decent offensive situations, but he can learn Surf, one of the most vital abilities in the games, and Water Absorb, which is equally powerful.
Perhaps the biggest reason why Lapras is so popular is its type combination: He acts as both Water and Ice Typethe latter was relatively rare in older games. Given how deadly Lance, the Dragon-type trainer for Gen 1, can be to unprepared players, having an Ice-type on Lapras makes the boss fight much easier. Training an ice beam is one of the most common strategies for defeating a Gym Leader.
Pokemon Players who prefer to buy goods for a creature other than Lapras are also in luck. The Pokémon Center has something for everyoneand given the size of the online store, new stock is always arriving to give each Pokémon time in the spotlight. With Halloween around the corner, expect some kind of Ghost to take over the store in the near future.
