NCSoft and Amazon Games' Throne of Liberty earned more 3 million players within the first week, the companies revealed.
The MMORPG was released on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 1st. Overall, these players also reached 24 million hours of gameplay.
For comparison, Amazon's 2022 MMO Lost Ark open to 1.32 million players on launch weekend, and New World I had over 700,000 players on launch day. However, both initially launched exclusively on PC.
“We are really pleased to see the results as players join the game,” wrote Amazon Games Vice President Christoph Hartmann. “We're just getting started and have a number of updates planned, including our first castle siege coming soon.”
Acquisition of Amazon Throne and Freedom publication rights last year, covering North and South America, Japan and Europe. The game is Amazon's third biggest MMO after Lost Ark AND New World.
In August, the publisher lost an MMO when Bandai Namco announced plans to kill it Blue Protocol early next year and canceled Amazon's previously established deal to publish the game outside of Japan.
Despite Blue Protocol loss, Amazon plans to release several games in the future. Together with next Tomb Raider from Crystal Dynamics, an open-world racing game from its in-house team Non-conformist gamesea MMO The Lord of the Rings with the Hugger.
