Today's Connections Category Tips
24 AUGUST No. 439
If you just want a few clues but don't want the answers yet, we have some great tips for trying to figure out the categories without looking at the names. Of course, you can use both to figure out what words each might contain.
- A category is not based on facts
- One category is about how you act
- A category includes parts of proper nouns about a particular job
- A category is a group of words that have common endings
The last two categories and prompts above are the most difficult to understand without sufficient familiarity with the ideas. I found them a little confusing, but if you know what you're dealing with, it might be easier for you. With this in mind, we present the names of the categories:

This can be overcome by a few words found in the later categories, while RUMBLING is not often used in everyday language. It might make it easy to chalk it up to one of the wrong words, especially JARGON, but it's one of the right meanings. SPECULATION is the closest to the category namebut TALK and WHISPERS are more context dependent.

TIPTOE |
CREEP and TIPTOE were the two words that most alerted me to this category. ROBBERY is a strange way to describe the act, but it is a lesser known meaning for the crime. You will though try to steal to the nearest exit in the process of stealing. This was actually the first category I guessed today because there were no other “creepy” words to choose from.

This is where it gets tricky, because the words in this category and beyond seem extremely unrelated. If you don't know anything about these companies, it will be difficult. It just doesn't help ENTERPRISE is truly a one word Car Rental company the rest have other titles. You'll probably have to do some Googling to see how these words all fit together without better knowledge of these companies.

Finally, we have this category, which together with the previous category can cause quite a bit of trouble. I, for one, haven't looked at the periodic table since high school and wouldn't divided these words into different periodic elements. Although I like you, maybe you could have erased all your high school Chemistry and Physics from your mind. It doesn't help that JARGO and LATIN are also in the “Hearsay” category.
