This makes sense and is probably the first category most people buy. Somehow, today my weird brain guessed one of the other categories before some sort of whimsy. That is, all this words are associated with explosive sounds and events like the 4th of July can be confusing if you're not sure what kind of BOOM it really is. Fortunately, it's usually just fireworks that make noise like THUNDER.

Again, my brain bypassed this category as well, although it's obvious now that I'm looking at it. That is a lot Connections puzzles where I see the answers and immediately wonder why I didn't see them, maybe it is.
Anyway, today is a category full of SPICE, About the level of HEAT you can expect from biting into one of these chili peppers. I wouldn't recommend jumping for the hottest right away.

This is a category that my brain randomly decided to tackle, and I guessed more on autopilot than anything else. I was pleased to discover that I had a random opinion this may be related to the nail salon Although I was wrong about the type of salon, it actually paid off. It's a bit surprising considering I haven't been to a barbershop in a long time, but I've been before, maybe my brain was reminding me of it.

The word I feel doesn't belong in this puzzle is SET. If you can have a “deck of cards”, this is not one actual friendly as are the other three of the card. The other three are very specific card types, and SET can certainly ruin many a puzzler's day. Regardless, the editor clearly feels differently than I do, although the other three seem more obvious than the typical purple category words.
