Tom Brady Reveals Bench Press Max in Workout Video

Tom Brady is no stranger to the gym after playing professional football for nearly half his life, but it’s been a long time since the seven-time Super Bowl champion has bench pressed his maximum.

In a video posted to Brady's YouTube channel on Aug. 29, the football phenom gave an inside look at his current workouts and even attempted to reach his maximum bench press after nearly two decades. He admitted that the last time he reached his maximum bench press was “probably '05, '06, '07.” [Patriots quarterback] Matt Cassel and I are just trying to see who can lift the most.”

“I think I'm doing 225 for eight or nine people at most [reps]”I always think that if you can lift your body weight ten times, that's a great goal.”

Brady starts by easily lifting 155 pounds on the bar, but he admits it might be a stretch since he benched the day before. He noted that this isn’t exactly the type of workout he’d do if he were to come out of retirement for a second time. “I wouldn’t be doing this if I was trying to cancel my retirement,” he bluntly stated.

Brady claimed he was struggling, but he wasted no time in taking it a step further. “I haven’t even made 225 yet,” he said. He then easily passed the 225-pound mark. But he didn’t stop there, aiming for potentially his biggest bench max yet.

“If you had told me this morning that I had to do 245, I would have said, 'You're out of your mind,'” the 47-year-old said. After correcting his form, he successfully completed one rep at the 245-pound weight point. “Not to brag, but I'm a great athlete,” he said after lifting.

Brady will begin his first season as an NFL commentator on Fox on September 8.
