The slow passage of time comes to us all; One day we realize that our body is aging and our metabolism is slowing down. NFL players are no exception, as Jason and Travis Kelce explain in the final episode of their match New Peaks podcast.
The brothers kicked off Wednesday's episode with Jason calling out Neil's Donuts in Wallingford CT after shipping a box of goodies.
“Good thing they're there,” Travis said to his brother, who compared the donuts to LaMar's Donuts in Kansas City, Mo., where the Chiefs tight end is clearly a fan.
“Ooh, golden box. Yellow boxes are dangerous,” Travis started. “I'm at a point in the season where I'm like, let me just push it aside… when I saw that gold glazed donut sitting in the yellow box, I was like, 'Mmm, I'm not doing that.' Knowing that it's not every day there's a box of donuts in the building, I'm like, 'I need this today, I'll get it tomorrow.'
“Lie to myself so I don't grab 10 donuts and run around the corner and stuff my face like a fat little kid. 'What happened to all those donuts?!'” he joked, with an innocent face.
Jason, who retired from the NFL earlier this year after 13 years with the Philadelphia Eagles, also empathized with his brother.
“It's a sad day in your NFL career when you realize you've reached the age where you can't eat everything you want anymore,” the former center lamented. “I remember, the day before the games, I was living for ice cream.”
Jason then brought up something former Eagles tight end Brent Celek said to him before a game one day.
“He said, 'Man, I shouldn't have had a milkshake last night, I feel like shit.' I said, 'Yeah, it's not the fact that you play football, it's the milkshake,'” he recalled. “Then I got to 12th grade, had some ice cream and went to play football the next day. I was like, 'Oh shit'.”
“Why am I so lethargic today?” Travis joked. “I feel like a big blob. Am I swollen?”
In any case, at least one doesn't have to worry so much about their athletic abilities these days, as long as they can fit into their clothes for ESPN. Monday Night Countdown.
By the end of the episode, Jason shrugged: “Well, I'll just keep eating these Buffalo Wild Wings and donuts.”
However, while he no longer has to worry about his performance, Jason has been sporting a noticeably slimmer figure in recent months. In June, he announced that he had already lost 20 kilos and planned to lose another 20 kilos. So, suffice it to say, it deserves a cheat meal every now and then.
