It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator Rob McElhenney confirms a highly speculated crossover episode of another popular Philly-based comedy, ABC's Abbott Elementary School on Thursday.
McElhenney and Abbott Creator Quinta Brunson has been teasing a crossover episode for months, creating a lot of excitement among fans. Both shows now fall under the Disney umbrella, which owns FX and ABC, seemingly cutting through any red tape for the collaboration to come to fruition.
“Oh. Hello,” McElhenney captioned a photo posted to social media on Thursday of herself, Brunson and co-star Charlie Day posing in front of the instantly recognizable exterior of the fictional elementary school.

The rumors started earlier this year when McElhenney responded to fans about his viral Willy Wonka experience in Scotland; many suggested that this would be the perfect farce for The Gang.
“A lot of you are saying this feels like an episode of Sunny, but to me it feels more like an episode. It's always sunny–Abbott Elementary School crossover episode,” the 47-year-old actor posted in February.

In response to the suggestion, a fan writing in all caps posted the message: “DO IT, DO WHATEVER YOU WANT.”
Brunson, who later appeared on stage at Comic-Con in July, further fueled the fire by saying that they would make a crossover episode in the fourth season of the series. Abbott. However, they did not specify which program they would be collaborating with or offer further details at the time.
“We're going to have an interesting transition this season,” the 34-year-old Philly native said. Hollywood Reporter. “I won't tell you who, what, where, when or how. But it's really exciting and I think it's going to change television as we know it.”
Could it be possible that The Gang tried their own failed viral experiment, and Brunson's Janine Teagues and her fellow teachers unwittingly brought their class there for a field trip?
