Video: Panera Employee Attacks Customer With Pizza Shovel

An employee at a Colorado Panera Bread took action after a fight at his restaurant turned violent, subduing an unruly customer with a tool he took from the kitchen.

Accordingly VATFootage of the incident shows an angry customer knocking things off the counter at a Panera branch in Glendale, Colorado, and repeatedly demanding employees give them their phones. Witness Natalie Wiersma, who recorded the incident, explained that employees apparently had no idea what the person was talking about.

“They all looked very surprised and said, 'We don't have your phone,'” Wiersma said.

Police say the suspect, identified as Isaac Ross, arrived at the Panera and caused a scene. He threw a smoothie at employees and shouted a racial slur at one before continuing to wreak havoc in the store. At one point, another customer tried to stop Ross.

“The next man then stopped that man from being attacked any further and did his best to keep him down,” Wiersma said.

An employee came out from behind the counter to break up the fight and began hitting Ross in the head with a metal shovel used to remove pizza from the oven.

“He's my personal hero,” Wiersma said of the shovel-wielding worker. “I thought that was very effective.”

Ross fled the scene before police arrived but returned later and began provoking people in the restaurant again. This time, one person was slightly injured in a scuffle. The suspect remains at large.
