The kings of the thronethe medieval time-traveling shooter with a killer announcement trailerwill be turned into a live-action film.
Story Kitchen, the production company behind the upcoming Tomb Raider adaptation, will oversee the project in collaboration with developer Redemption Road and publisher Tinybuild.
What is noteworthy about this particular Hollywood adaptation is that The kings of the throne is still in development. In fact, Redemption Road has not yet announced a concrete release date. As of this writing, the title is expected to be released sometime in “2024.”
Story Kitchen's production slate includes adaptations of numerous video game properties such as Dredge, Streets of Rage, ToeJam and Earl, and It Takes Two.
The company was founded by Sonic the Hedgehog producer and Dmitri M. Johnson, who helped transform Sega's iconic platform game into a successful film franchise.
Commenting on the live action potential of The kings of the throneJohnson said the project will look “perfect” on the big screen. “The action, world-building and intriguing science fiction of The kings of the throne “It makes it the perfect mix to build a new, propulsive franchise in Hollywood,” he added.
Story Kitchen currently has a first-look deal for television with Amazon MGM Studios and a first-look deal for an animated film with DreamWorks Animation.
Transmedia franchises are currently all the rage following the success of adaptations like The Last of Us, Fallout, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and studios are increasingly turning to the video game industry in search of the next big thing.
