Canadian VR studio Archiact is closing its doors after more than a decade. The company an unspecified number of workers were laid off in January, but now we will definitely lower the shutters.
Archiact has published over 35 titles to date and has worked on notable projects such as Doom 3: VR Edition AND Marvel Dimension of Heroes.
She also ventured into self-publishing for Journey to the Foundationa sci-fi adventure based on the “Foundation” novel series launched in December 2023 for PS VR2, Meta Quest and Pico.
Archiact had over 100 employees at the start of the year. Those remaining will be laid off when the studio closes in just two weeks.
“Archiact's journey is coming to an end. On August 12th we informed the staff that the studio will close in two weeks”, read a post on Linkedin. “And what an incredible journey it has been. Founded in 2013 as a pioneer of virtual reality, Archiact has dedicated itself to developing immersive reality games.
“The studio has released over 35 games, partnered with the industry's biggest companies, and pushed the possibilities of VR and MR. Most importantly, it has been home to hundreds of talented developers over the years. They believed in the power of games and the promise of immersive reality. And they believed in each other and every player they touched.”
Layoffs and studio closures have decimated the video game industryresulting in thousands of layoffs in the last year. In August alone, we saw layoffs at Jam City AND Armor gamesand studio closures, including Ready for dawn AND Shipyard games.
