Paul McCartney collapsed Blackish Deon Cole was spotted performing a stand-up routine at the Hollywood Improv on September 17, with the two allegedly “getting high” backstage.
“I got stoned with my friend tonight and we had a blast,” Cole told the crowd, before adding, “Please applaud for my friend Paul McCartney.” As the bewildered audience applauded the legendary musician's arrival, McCartney leaned over and whispered a few words into Cole's ear.
“I was supposed to smoke a cigarette and that's why this is happening,” Cole told the crowd. “Look, you never know,” the comedian said of the show's unpredictable cast. “And you motherfuckers showed me no love tonight,” he joked.
Far from being a passive audience member, McCartney came armed with notes. “I enjoyed seeing you work through this material,” he told Cole. “And you’re right, some of it was a dud,” he joked, as the audience laughed. “But you’ve got some gems in there, man, that’s great,” he added.
McCartney later offered some consolation, explaining that even he had been through disastrous performances. “In the beginning, [The Beatles] “In the beginning, guys were throwing pennies at us,” he said. “It took us a while to figure out what we were doing.”
“This doesn't feel good, Paul,” Cole told him. “I think I've been doing this long enough, but I know what you mean.” McCartney later told Cole that he was “wonderful,” but as he left the stage, he told the comedian, “I didn't make you start smoking.”
“Yeah you did, son of a bitch,” Cole shot back. “You made me smoke and s–t with you.”
Cole has a lot to celebrate this week, Netflix special Ok sir It has become one of the broadcaster's top three most-watched TV series since it began airing on September 17.
