Denver area golfers were in for a shock yesterday morning when a small plane made an emergency landing on the course.
The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. local time at Meridian Golf Club in Douglas County, Colorado, about 20 miles south of downtown Denver. Fortunately, both fliers escaped with little or no injury, and both were able to walk away from the pile of shattered metal. Authorities reported that one had minor injuries but refused to be transported to hospital for further treatment, while the other was completely unharmed.
Photos from the scene shared by South Metro Fire Rescue show the aircraft is part of the fleet used by ATP Flight Academy, a nationwide flight school with campuses across the country.
Meridian Golf Club is located just south of Centennial Airport. According to local fire and rescue crews, the plane had made a hard landing on the runway after departing from the airport's runway 17R. They left the scene a short time later.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident. The exact cause of the crash is not yet known.
