Rhys, Cassian and Azriel never miss an opportunity to dunk on each other. Usually, Rhys and Cassian do the heavy lifting, Cassian motoring and Rhys enjoying a witty party, but even Azriel gets into a good chain now and then thanks to his keen observation. Three men teasing each other like only siblings can, three men who know each other inside and out and love each other enough to know what buttons to push. Their banter is some of the best parts of the books and certainly the funniest. In fact, we'd be perfectly happy with just the three of them bantering back and forth.

All these jokes at each other's expense come from the heart of a relationship built in the darkest of times. Their bond is so deep that not only because they endure so much, but because they endured together and only survived because of each other. Even before the Blood Rite, they rescued each other as children, whether it was Azriel from bullying, Cassian from homelessness, or Rhys from just being lonely. The three boys found each other and strengthened each other, and their deep love and appreciation for each other shines through the banter. Beneath the joke is deep love.

Watching Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie go through the Valkyrie training, grab the ribbon, and lead each other to the top of the mountain to earn the Blood Rite was very satisfying. While in women ACOTAR books can be trained as warriors, often they prevail primarily as breedersincluding Feyre after a certain point. Watching Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie resurrect an ancient Valkyrie regiment just for themselves and no one else was incredibly inspiring, especially since so many of the other male characters thought it couldn't be done. They worked for it and deserved it as fully as any Illyrian.

Their Women's Bonds (and Friendship Bracelets)

While Cassian, Azriel, and Rhys bond through banter and snowball fights, Emery, Nesta, and Gwyn bond differently. Their friendship is unapologetically feminine and unapologetic. Sleepovers, gossip, and vulnerability are part of their bond, it just isn't part of male friendship, and it's equally beautiful in a different way that balances the original Illyrian trio. The scene where they make friendship bracelets is one that was initially written off by some readers, but has proven to be deeper and more important than anyone could have guessed. This made their friendship even richer.

Their Smut love

One of the most delightful features of Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie So they are audience substitutes for readers: their love of raunchy romance books isn't exactly a subtly coded or quiet subtext. Emery clipped his wings and lost his ability to fly. Gwyn was raped and watched as her sister was murdered in front of her. Their friendship is beautiful in how healing it is for all three of them, all three women drag each other out of the darkness and into their own inner power and agency. Only for this their A Court of Thorns and Roses arc was great and it will be great to see how their story continues in the next book.
