Following the massive recall of Boar's Head deli meats, another major grocery retailer has announced a voluntary recall of its products in nearly 30 states.
HP Hood, the parent company of Lactaid, has recalled several of its lactose-free milk products after routine inspections revealed a possible almond allergen that was not listed on the label. “Individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds may be at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products,” the Food and Drug Administration said in its guidance. By law, food labels must state “the food source of all major food allergens used to make the food,” which can include tree nuts such as almonds, pecans and walnuts.
Five products in particular are being recalled, so check your refrigerator if you purchased a 96-ounce bottle of Lactaid Whole Milk, a 96-ounce bottle of Lactaid 2% Milk, a 96-ounce bottle of Lactaid 1% Milk, a 96-ounce bottle of Lactaid Skim Milk, and a 96-ounce bottle of 2% Calcium-Enriched Milk. The expiration dates for the contaminated batches range from November 22 to December 5, 2024, so check the FDA's website to see if your milk is affected.
The recalled products were sold in a total of 27 states: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
There is no need to worry about losing money by throwing away milk, as consumers who purchased any of the affected products can return the product to the store where they purchased it for a full refund or exchange.
