10 Hulk: Red Hulk

Since his introduction, the Red Hulk has been shrouded in mystery, with his secret identity not revealed until years after the fact. For now, Hulk #1 (2008) opens with an explosion in Dimitri, Russia, where Dr. Samson recounts how he watched Hulk doesn't just fight The Abomination, he kills him with a gun.
With each passing issue, the heroes would learn new details — like learning that this Hulk was red — and then inevitably, the Avengers would get into a physical confrontation with the Red Hulk. Before Bruce Banner's Hulk faced off against this Red Hulk, this new Hulk was immediately established as a force to be reckoned with.

After her trial with She-Hulk's Lady Liberators team, Red Hulk was absent from Loeb's Hulk for several issues. In his absence, she would recruit her own team of Frank Castle's Punisher, Elektra, Deadpool, Dynamo, and Thundra, a former member of She-Hulk's Liberators. The beginning of the “Code Red” storyline begins with an all-out brawl between Team Red Hulk and X-Force, which at the time consisted of Wolverine, Domino, X-23, Archangel, and Warpath. The fight took place with Red Hulk tracking down Domino after learning her secret and watching her transform. Readers don't see the transformation, so Red Hulk's identity remains a mystery.
As if the battle wasn't glamorous enough, an even bigger twist came with the sudden debut of Red She-Hulk, shocking the Red Hulk. While the story arc isn't necessarily essential reading, it's fun to watch these two fiercely violent teams go head-to-head while the new She-Hulk helps make things better.
7 Fall of the Hulks

In 2010, Marvel introduced an extensive crossover storyline Hulk, The Incredible Hulkand several one-shots and mini-series. At the heart of this storyline The Intelligencia, as readers learn, is a group of supervillains who actually gave the Red Hulk their powers and gifts. Still, it's too early to reveal who's hiding under the red curtain, but readers learn how MODOK, The Leader, and Doc Samson played a role in the creation of the Red Hulk.
While this crossover spans multiple series and one-shots, it's essential to read the four-part limited series to focus on the Red Hulk, Fall of the Hulks: Red Hulk. This series will be a big step in her story, bringing readers closer to discovering her true identity.
6 World War Hulks

“World War Hulks” would be another company-wide crossover, with storylines spinning directly from both “Fall of the Hulk” and “Dark Reign,” in which the Red Hulk takes over Bruce Banner's powers. Finally, Red She-Hulk returns to the fray By draining Red Hulk's power from him, he forces Red Hulk to revert to his true identity – Thunderbolt Ross.! After two years of active comics, the identity of the Red Hulk is finally revealed Hulk #22.
This would have come as a huge shock to readers at the time, as past storylines and comics featuring the Red Hulk featured the presumed death of Thunderbolt Ross. Readers are then shown the origin of the Red Hulk, how he relates to the Intelligence, and how they build a life model of Thunderbolt Ross to dispel any doubts that he might be the Red Hulk. In the same breath, readers will learn that Red She-Hulk's daughter is none other than Betty Ross.
5 Red Hulk: Scorched Earth

At the end of the “World War Hulks” storyline, the Hulk finally defeats the Red Hulk and does so decisively. In fact, it's kind of a shame to see the Red Hulk taken out so brutally compared to his recent fights. After being humiliated, Red Hulk first begins to walk the path of redemption. His first task is to fight the end-game project that is triggered by the deaths of the Leader and MODOK. “It's time to start paying for your sins” Bruce Banner tells Ross. And so it does.
Now that Red Hulk's human form has been revealed, the story finally takes steps to humanize the monster. With this, readers get a more brooding and remorseful Ross. This allows the creator to reveal both Thunderbolt Ross and why he decided to become the Red Hulk. It's an absolutely fascinating depiction that makes it impressively refreshing.
4 Arabian Hulk
Hulk #42-46 by Jeff Parker and Patrick Zircher
After the secret is revealed, the Red Hulk is actually Thunderbolt Ross and Thaddeus begins to realize the tragedy of being denied his transformation, his redemption arc begins. From there, he begins working on special assignments for the then director of SHIELD, Steve Rogers. However, things change when Ross learns that his old friend, Colonel William Krugauer, has been murdered under mysterious circumstances in the Middle East. Naturally, Ross goes looking for answers, but because he does so unsupervised, Rogers sends in the Secret Avengers to take him down.
At this point there were several stories that featured the Red Hulk as the main character, however it's one of the first stories to showcase what a hero the Red Hulk can actually be. Ross has done a lot of bad things since becoming the Red Hulk, but he revealed that his path to redemption is as real as it is personal to him.
3 Red Hulk: Haunted
Hulk: #47-52 by Jeff Parker, Elena Casagrande, and Carlo Pagulayan
A visit to Doctor Strange reveals that when he returns from the dead, an entity latches onto the Red Hulk and pursues him until a showdown that was always meant to happen. The trials cause Red Hulk to see ghosts and slowly drive him insane before such a confrontation takes place. This will eventually require the Red Hulk to enlist the help of supernatural forces such as Morbius, Strange, and others, all before Dark Samson—the ghost of Doc Samson—is introduced to haunt Thunderbolt.
The Red Hulk isn't a character that would obviously fit into a supernatural story, but that's what makes this one so interesting. It takes a character steeped in science, logic, and the military and puts him in a situation he doesn't understand, but is forced to use his brainpower to solve his conflict.. It's like a fish out of water story as it relates to the genre, especially the horror genre.
2 Red Hulk: Mayan Rule

For context, this was released in 2012, a year when everyone was talking about the potential prospect behind the end of the world and how it related to Mayan culture. This obsession found its way into the comics, in which the Red Hulk, along with Alpha Flight, feasted their eyes on the strangest of sights: a Mayan temple in the middle of Canada. They incurred the wrath of the Mayan Gods and hoped to feed on enough life force to give them enough strength to rise to glory once more.
It's a storyline that tries to capitalize on the appeal of society at that time. Yet it does so in a way that once again places the Red Hulk in unfamiliar territory, creating a timeless appeal of its own.. It works for the same reason that “Haunted” works so well, and it shows that the creative team isn't afraid to experiment with a new character.
1 US Avengers

All of the stories listed here so far have centered around Thunderbolt Ross, but some readers may not know that he isn't the only character who is the Red Hulk. A 12-part film by Al Yuving US Avengers series brings General Robert L. Maverick to the fore. He initially debuts in the films of Ewing and Gerardo Sandoval New Avengers Avengers' “Standoff!” for the #9 story arc, however is in it US Avengers #1 in which Robert Maverick debuts as the new Red Hulk. Using the Hulk Plug-In implant, which allows him to transform into the Red Hulk for an hour, he effectively becomes the muscle of the new Avengers team.
While Thunderbolt Ross is so easy to relate to as a character that it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Red Hulk, Maverick brings a different flavor to the role that makes his journey worth reading. Plus, his bombastic personality helps round out the team character-wise. It's refreshing to see something new Red Hulk.
